email storage

Bill Walsh

I rarely want to save an email. When I do, I drag it into the "drafts"
folder. Meanwhile, Vista is saving every email I have received since I
bought this computer and went online. Why? I don't want them. I delete them
after reading every day, even using the "shift-delete" permanent(?) method.
Yet all the emails are stored in some "indexed location", taking up space.
Does anyone know how to stop this constant storage by Vista? I have tried to
delete the old emails but they never go away. Help, please...Bill Walsh

You delete them first and then compact to get rid of wasted spaced. They
will NOT be on your computer after you delete and compact.

They are deleted, if you delete them. Don't worry about them.
You must be searching for them, and seeing them there. You don't see them
in Windows Mail, do you?
They will show up in the search Index until it catches up & gets rebuilt.
The indexer normally runs when you aren't using the computer, or you can
force a rebuild under Control Panel - Indexing Options.

When you delete an email from the deleted items folder or Shift-delete it
from another folder that message is gone. Are you saying the Shift-Deleted
messages don't get deleted? It may be that the database is messed up and
needs repair, but the actual eml files should have been removed. You can
check the message store and see if they are in fact gone or not. See
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx and the section on WinMail.

Except you seem to be posting with Windows Live Mail, so you are in the
wrong newsgroup if you are asking about that. This NG is for Windows Mail
in Vista.
