cannot send or delete emails

I can receive emails, can forward emails, but can't send newly composed
emails.
Error states: The host '(e-mail address removed)' could not be found. Please
verify that you have entered the server name correctly.
Subject 'test', Account: '(e-mail address removed)', Server:
'(e-mail address removed)', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 11003, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
and
The host '(e-mail address removed)' could not be found. Please verify that
you have entered the server name correctly.
Account: '(e-mail address removed)', Server: '(e-mail address removed)',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11003, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0D
And the ones that I want to delete from my inbox are stuck in the deleted
box. I can not get them to delete permanately. The error says "An unknown
error has occurred"
Running Vista on a laptop. Removed the Norton and looked for any other
anti-virus interference. Please help.

(e-mail address removed) is not a valid mail server name.
Change the outgoing (SMTP) server name to mail.bellsouth.net.
You can make that change by going to Tools, Accounts, select your account,
Properties, Servers.
