Email Problems

Please see yesterday's emails. I cannot reply to previous instructions via
reply as I keep getting a message that my password is wrong, but I could
start a new message...???????

My qwest bill for Broadband services states, "Qwest connect SLVR w MSFT."

Just for your info, incoming mail says "pop3.live.com" and outgoing says
"smtp.live.com," if that helps.

Thanks, Neva

Gary,

This is the message I received after doing as instructed. Everything was as
the instructions indicated, except the authenication part which I marked as
per the instructions. The email address and password are correct as verified
with Qwest. What is the next step?????

"The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'test', Account:
'995', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 5.7.0
Must issue a STARTTLS command first', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78Subject 'test', Account: '995', Server:

That helps. MSFT is an abbreviation for Microsoft.

Start here:
http://www.ineedvistahelp.com/windowsmail/checkq/check4.html

Then click the Next link near the upper left corner to see the next screen.
The most critical part of those directions is that the incoming server
uses port 995, and the outgoing server uses port 25, both with the SSL
option enabled.

Yes, you didn't have SSL enabled on that previous error message.
Glad to hear it is working now.

i am having alot of issues with windows mail. i am running windows vista home
premium and my windows mail will not work no matter what i do. my 'host'
cannot be found nor do i know what my proper IMAP server info is supposed to
be. can someone help me and offer some 'step by step instruction' to help me
set up my windows mail properly?

i am also having issues with Rundll32. i have narrowed down that its
possibly a windows service issue for i cannot back my files nor do a system
restore. my DEP keeps shutting down when i try to do such actions. can
someone also help me with this problem? im hoping i dont have to take my
laptop in to someone. thanks a million to who can help. please reply to:
(e-mail address removed) thankyou---jerico

Who is your email service provider? Or to ask that question another way,
what is the part of your email address after the @ symbol?
Your mail provider will typically have a web page that shows how to
set up an email program. If you need more help, tell us the name of
your email service provider.

Do you get an error message when you try to send or receive? If so,
right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without that complete error message.

In this particular newsgroup we can't help you with non-email issues.
There is a newsgroup for general Vista issues, but last time I looked
there, it was full of off-topic and spam-like messages:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Logitech(R) Mail',
Account: 'Work', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

above i the message i constanly recieve no matter what i tried

secondly i am still trying to troubleshoot my windows problem with the DEP
Rundll32 continuall closing. i really hope i dont have to wipe my system to
fix this other problem...

Windows Host Process (Rundll32) Stopped Working And Was Closed
A Prpblem Caused The Application To Stop Working Correctly
Windows Will Notify You If A Solution Is Available

i had a 'computer geek' this morning (sunday) to put it short, i could
either work with it or wipe my system clean and start over...and i dont know
for sure what i should do. can you or someone help? thanks again!

Is your Yahoo email account a free one, a paid one, or an ISP-partnered one?
US-based free Yahoo accounts have webmail access only,
no POP access. Windows Mail handles POP mail but not webmail.
There are two possible solutions:

1. How did you access Yahoo mail before? If you are happy with
webmail via your browser, you can continue to use that.

2. Pay Yahoo to get their premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/overview/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

Likewise, most @msn.com accounts are webmail only. Those won't work
in Windows Mail. However, you can upgrade to the free Windows Live
Mail which will accommodate MSN accounts:
