Email Problems

This error message keeps happening. Both my ISP and HP tech support have
helped me with no avail. ISP is Qwest and they have reassured me that all my
coding and email address and password are correct. Running Premium home
VISTA and it's a new HP computer.

"The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Hello', Account: '995',
Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 3268, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

I am neither receiving nor able to send email.

I should make myself clear. Qwest indicated that all my coding in account
properties was correct when I received this message:
"The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Hello', Account: '995',
Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

I tried Port 3268 in advanced properties, because my son's laptop uses that
one. But it didn't work either. I got the message below.

Qwest indicated that 25 outgoing and 110 incoming are correct.

Being 95, this stuff is all very confusing, so any DETAILED info is greatly
appreciated.

Unless your son's laptop also uses Qwest's 'Live' email service, do not
copy any of his settings. Each email service's settings are unique.

Qwest email settings are a bit of a mess because they have at least three
different email services, traditional qwest.net, MSN Premium, and Windows Live.
It sounds like you may have their Windows Live email service.

From perusing Qwest's website, they seem to say that their Windows Live
email service has web access only, no POP access. However, I know at
least one Qwest customer who is a responder in the Microsoft newsgroups
who has it set up for POP email. Before I delve into this a little deeper, can
you confirm which of the three varieties of email service you have? Does
your monthly billing from Qwest reflect which email service you have?

Qwest's version of "Live" email is in a category of its own, and
should not be equated to the standard free Live.com accounts.
I'll see if I can dig up some more information for the OP.
