email attachments won't respond

I am running a PC with Windows XP Home and IE 7.0
I have a Yahoo email account and a Hotmail email account. Neither one is
setup in Outlook or any other email browser...I logon to the respective
websites to check email. My problem is, on both accounts, I cannot open jpg
or wmv attachments. I can save the attachment to my PC and then open it, but
if I click to open it from my email, it does nothing...there is no response.
Attachments of other file types open fine. I'm assuming there is a setting
somewhere that needs to be changed. This is something that has worked fine
up until a few weeks ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

So, what did you do then? ; )

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Depending on third-party programs which have changed default filetype
associations, you could Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter:)

regsvr32.exe /i shimgvw.dll

For a partial check on what you would be changing you could try these
command line pipelines in a cmd window:

assoc | findstr "mff jp Pai .tif png"
and
ftype | findstr "mff jp Pai TIF png" | find /v "Live"

Good luck
