Elementary question about internet connection sharing of two compu

I have two computers sharing an Internet Connection through a Linskys router.
I can't turn off the router, even if this is a safe practice, since my phone
service is Internet enabled. My simple concern is how I can safely disenable
and enable the connections of my two computers. 1. I have been just
disconnecting the Ethernet cables, 2. I can disenable/enable by using Networ
Connections and in the status box either enable or disenable, 3. I can also
disconnect the powewr supply cable after turning off a computer. MY SUSPICION
IS THIS IN NO WAY ENHANCES THE SECURITY OF THE COMPUTER.

I did a Google search but the articles dealt with far more technical
questions and sophisticated networks than mine.

My connections are LAN with automatic detection of settings, thc-ip ?
protocol and Dhcp enabled. My security software is Zone Alarm Antivirus and
Ad-Aware Plus and Spyware Doctor (obviosly both not used at the same time. I
would be very appreciative if someone could address my question and provide
guidance.Norton Internet Security had to be dumped off the older computer as
it was hogging resources for several minutes at start up.
Thanks again to anyone who responds th this challenged computer user.

You don't need to turn off the router or disable the Internet
connections to be safe. This is a total waste of time. You've got a
firewall, an antivirus, and are behind a router. As long as you then
practice "Safe Hex" that's as good as it's going to get. Here are links

I don't know what your question really is because you apparently wrote a
whole lot on the subject line (which few people read). The subject line
refers to sharing but the body of your post seems to be talking about
the safety of turning off the network connection.

What do you really want to know?
