You'll need decoder software or a hardware decoder card (PCI card) to make
the DVD player play DVD's.

Software such as PowerDVD or others out there. (this should have been
bundled with the drive along with Nero or similar).

Nero has their own player, now...comes with 6.6.

| you the "bare-minimum" DVD creation. If you did not receive this, the OEM
| kit is incomplete.

Wrong again. If you buy an OEM piece of hardware, the chances are good that
it will come with nothing.

I've never purchased an OEM DVD burner yet that came with any
software.
