DVD Drive isn't working

Hi! My DVD drive was working properly. But suddenly when I was wathcing
a movie on DVD the movie stopped and the tray stucked. I couldn't open
the tray after that. Then I use safety-pin in the hole on the tray and
opened the tray. But still I the tray's open/close switch isn't working
and the drive can't read any disks. I uninstalled the drive and each
time my PC detects the drive without any disturbance and shows that
it's working properly. But it's not actually working at all. It's light
is blinking, but that's it.

Can anyone tell me how can I fix it and what could be the cause of this
type of problem? I'll be very glad if anyone can help.

Turn off the computer.
Turn on the computer - but don't boot into Windows - enter your system
BIOS...

Does the button on the DVD drive work there?

If so - could be a Windows issue.
Boot into Windows XP Safe Mode and try the button there.

If not - the problem is likely hardware.
Check all the internal connection and jumper settings and if that fails -
break down wiht the $40 and get a new CD/DVD burner to replace it.

Hello,

Seems to be a hardware issue. How old is the DVD drive ? I would suggest you
to replace the DVD drive since they are quite inexpensive these days.
