I have a Cannon DC211 Camcorder that records directly onto a mini DVD disc.
I want to edit and make home movies.
I have Roxio,Nero ,Pinnacle and Windows Movie maker.
None of the above will capture from DVD in PC.
I have tried copying DVD to hard drive without success.
Have been advised to download a DVD ripper programm.
The ones I have Googled seem aimed at commercial films.
IF I can down load to hard drive will it be in a format that will allow me to edit in one of the above programmes? The mini discs are finalized RW's that are player compatible and run on my DVD player.
Any help appreciated.

Line 5 should read copying DVD....

Well, my goodness, look at that - it does now ;)

Does the camcorder plug into any of the ports on your PC, like Firewire or USB?

That's the usual method of capture and both Pinnacle and Nero can do that. I'm not familiar with Roxio.

Hi floppybotstomp
The only external connections are to TV or DVD player.
Hand book shows removal of disc and playing in PC

Does your computer have a video capture device, such as a TV card? If it does you can plug the video into that and the audio from the camcorder into your sound line in then capture within Pinnacle.

There's a device named Dazzle, I think it's actually made by Pinnacle, where you can plug audio and video from your camcorder or any device with a composite video and audio ouput, then plug the Dazzle device into a USB port so you can capture in Pinnacle.

It comes in three versions, ranging in price from around £40.00 to £100.00 if I remember correctly, I have the mid-priced version.

Other than that, you do need some software to convert VOB files to mpeg files, so you can edit.

I use an mpeg converter from a company named Imtoo that will do that, Google for Imtoo and I believe you can try before you buy, I think the software costs around £20.00
