camcorder dvd-r

Hello All,

Just a quick question. I have a Hitachi dvd camcorder. After filling the
mini dvd do I need to finalize the mini dvd-r in order for my dvd drive to
read it and windows to display the data? I would like to copy this data to
my HDD and change it to an mpeg in order to burn it to a dvd. The camcorder
is capable of finalizing the dvd before I insert it into the computer dvd
drive.

Thanks for Any Responses

The PC should read it OK, a standalone DVD player probably will need you to
finalize the disk before it can read it.

Thank you for the response Cari! I have put the disk into the dvdrom drive
but it didnt read it at all, I then put it in the dvd writer and explorer
opened up but didnt show any files. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?
Nero tool shows both drives capable of reading the disk. None of my programs
however (dvd architect, PowerDVD) will read it or open it. The disk does
playback on the camcorder fine. Do I need an update or a separate program?

Thank You Again!

As you have Nero, try this:
Open Nero Express, click MORE, then choose Save Tracks.

As Cari said, it's probably un-finalized. Could you take it
back to the camcorder and finalize it?

I wanted to get back to all about this problem I had. After allowing the
camcorder to "finalize" the MiniDVD. It finalized as a .vob file which
windows now recognizes and I can now do what I wanted with my programs and
DVD's.

Thank You All Again!!
