during file import, unable to map to custom contact fields

Before importing a database of 900 customers, I had to create some custom
fields to accomodate data not covered by the standard contact fields on
offer. I created the custom fields, and then on trying to map my access file
to my contact folder, none of the new fields were available - it was as if
they didnt exist. They do however exist in the custom view I have created as
empty cells - surely I can avoid manual re-entry?

Does anyone know how I can possibly import from one valid field to a custom
field within outlook 2003? Any help gratefully received!

The Outlook import wizard doesn't enable you to import to any custom fields
(either added to a standard contact form or via a custom form).

You'll need to write your own code or use a 3rd party solution (such as
ContactGenie - link in signature). You can also look for other possible
solutions here http://www.slipstick.com/addins/contacts.htm.

PS - should you decide to look at ContactGenie and these custom fields are
added to a standard contact form as opposed to a custom form, please note
that these fields MUST be added to the first "physical" contact created in
order for CG to pick them up correctly (in other words - the first contact
created may not be, and usually isn't, the first contact that appears in any
of your views)..
