Drivers are Unknown for HP DVD Writer

I have tried to install an HP DVD writer DC4000. When attempting to load software I get caught in a start-up loop indicating "Setup must restart your computer in order to complete pending operations form a previous install/uninstall. Set up will resume automatically following restart". Once the computer has restarted I get the same message again. I have contacted the hardware mfg, HP and they indicated this was a known problem with Microsoft XP 2003 and I should contact Microsoft. HP had me manually load the software but when I plug in the hardware I get "unknown device" in the USB port the unit is plugged into. I have tried using other USB ports and I get the same result.

Please help--

Hey Debbie,

Have you tried downloading the lastest drivers from the HP website. Usually
old drivers might have bugs in them.

Thanks and best of luck!
