"Driver unloading without cancelling pending operations" - what's causing this?

I keep getting a reboot whenever I try to start any recent games on my XP
Pro SP1 system. And the above is the BSOD error message that seems to occur
in processes that have no associated files with them (pprocess.sys,
gatinrvx.sys, cndis.sys, etc.) This occurs as the game starts to load and is
about to switch to its resolutions, never at any other times. This is also
random and occurs about 50% of the time. I already re-installed XP to no
avail. Any ideas?

? Those files must exist on your PC someplace - did you 'search' for
them with the 'search hidden, system folders' options both on? Or try
manually looking in c:\windows\systems32 for the little beggars.

They are =not= part of vanilla WinXP, afaik. So when did you last run a
virus/spyware scan ?
