When these errors occur, I noticed my computer seem to pause for a second. These happen very
rare and not easily reproduced (no patterns). It is always the same two errors side by side. I
can just be surfing the Web, defragging HDDs, recording videos from my HDTV tuner PCI card,
etc.

I chkdsk'ed (surface scanned too), ran HD Tune v2.52, ran SpinRite v6.0 until done (took
almost all day), benchmarked (HD Tach v3.0.10 and HD Tune), SMART sensors said OK (not sure
about the numbers), etc. all of my HDDs. They don't have any problems (no errors found).
Here's the Seagate drive I am concerned with:

From EVEREST Home Edition v2.20.405 for Seagate ST3120026A (3JT12080):
ID Attribute Description Threshold Value Worst Data Status
01 Raw Read Error Rate 6 59 56 214760289 OK: Value is normal
03 Spin Up Time 0 98 96 0 OK: Always passing
04 Start/Stop Count 20 100 100 29 OK: Value is normal

0A Spin Retry Count 97 100 100 0 OK: Value is normal
0C Power Cycle Count 20 100 100 933 OK: Value is normal
C2 Temperature 0 56 57 56 OK: Always passing
C3 Hardware ECC Recovered 0 59 55 214760289 OK: Always passing
C5 Current Pending Sector Count 0 100 100 0 OK: Always passing
C6 Off-Line Uncorrectable Sector Count 0 100 100 0 OK: Always

C8 Write Error Rate 0 100 253 0 OK: Always passing
CA <vendor-specific> 0 100 253 0 OK: Always passing

Are those look OK? I am worried about those high numbers in error rates even though SMART says
OK (normal).

I am using the latest VIA Hyperion 4in1 driver in Windows XP Pro. SP2 (all updates) on my ASUS
K8V SE Deluxe (1007 firmware). You can read my full system specifications at

It appears to be normal for Seagate drives to report high raw

C3 Hardware ECC Recovered

The manufacturer gets to decide what the raw values represent
and different drive manufacturers to that differently.

Pity that the normalized 'value' values are also quite *low*, showing
that even for Seagates the raw data values are exceptionally *high*.

No luck with Seagate:

"You have sent your email to Seagate's hard drive technical support. We
have no expertise with the software that you are using and would not be
able to provide you with a reliable comment on the results of that
software. If you need comments on the results of the 3rd party diagnostic
software please refer to the software manufacturer. We can only recommend
you to run Seagate's SeaTools Desktop diagnostic software to check the
physical integrity of the drive. SeaTools can be obtained from Seagate's
website at: http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/"

Their software didn't read SMART information. :(

Thanks Rod. I will contact Seagate then. :)

It should if you put the drive on a motherboard port.

Are those look OK? I am worried about those high numbers
in error rates even though SMART says OK (normal).
It appears to be normal for Seagate drives to report high raw
01 Raw Read Error Rate
07 Seek Error Rate
C3 Hardware ECC Recovered
Pity that the normalized 'value' values are also quite *low*, showing
that even for Seagates the raw data values are exceptionally *high*.

Never ever could manage a viable troll.
The manufacturer gets to decide what the raw values represent
and different drive manufacturers to that differently.
