Even if I set my Minolta on maximum setting all my pictures on Vista Photo
Gallery are @ 72 dpi. My publisher wants images @ 300 dpi, How do I alter the
setting?

================================
That's because your Minolta camera
creates images that are 72 dpi.

DPI and pixel size are not the same thing.

Right click one of your Minolta image files
and choose...Properties / Summary tab /
Advanced button...

Look at the entries for Horizontal and
Vertical resolution. Both will be 72 dpi.
This is a standard for most digital cameras.

Now...if you must have a 300 dpi image file...
open one of your Minolta images in an
image editor and change the dpi to 300.

The freeware FastStone Image Viewer can
change dpi. And it can change the format if
your printer prefers a Windows Bitmap (.bmp).

FastStone Image Viewer
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

After you download FastStone and install it...
open the program and select the image you wish
to edit. (FWIW...might be a good idea to make a
copy of the original and edit the copy...I never
edit my original image files)

Now...go to...Edit / Set DPI...

Enter 300 in both fields...click OK...

That's it...

Very many thanks, this worked perfectly, just as you instructed except for
one image which altered from 72dpi to 96dpi. It will not go up to 300dpi even
though the 'set dpi' window says 300dpi, and it will not go back down to
72dpi. This was taken at the same time as the other images and at the same
camera setting, the only difference being that this was taken in portrait and
so rotated. I guess that the clue lies here somehow.

Did you read the warning about making
copies and not editing your original files?
My personal rule is to never edit my original
files.

Anyway...try it again with an unedited
copy of the image.

If you would like to upload a copy to the
following site and post the download link
here...I'll try to resize it and return it to you.

"YouSendIt"
http://www.yousendit.com/

All you have to do is enter an e-mail
address in the "To:" (Recipient) field
and click the "Browse" button to select
the file you wish to upload. Then click
the "Send It" button.

The next screen that appears will give
you the download link. Just copy/paste
it into the message to your recipients
who can download and view the file on
their computer.

Very many thanks again but I did take your advice and work on a copy. The
original is still as it came from the camera. I just wondered why this had
happened so I could avoid it in the future. My downloaded Image Viewer has
now gone on the blink, 'Edit' is grey not black and will not open so I must
have done something naughty again! I presume that I can get over this by
uninstalling and downloading again. Troubles, like buses, all come together!

Sorry but I have no idea why you were unable
to resize the image.

Sounds like you may have other issues with
your system but reinstalling the viewer is
certainly worth a try.
