Dox folder, faves folder, everything in it GONE

Everything was fine this morning @ 3am when i shut down the computer. Then when i log it back on this morning, everything logged on to the startup screen ok, my user icon was still intact, and same w my dad's and brothers. Then when i log onto my account, it was set at the default XP wallpaper, and pretty much all default settings. This *really* mad me mad. I went to check on my documents folders, and EVERYTHING was gone. Same with my favorites folder, and all my pictures. All the programs, and files on the G drive are still there, so I know my dad or brother didn't do a restore. but every file on their accounts are gone too. Theres nothing in either recycle bin. I had to go searching through the progs list to bring up MS Works Word Processor, and i went into recent documents, and got at least my health essay i've been working on. So i know all the documents on the computer are still on here. i tried to get it to not hide files and folders, but that didnt work, they're not hidden. I also tried restoring the computer to yesterday, but since my entire family are idiots, we have never set a restore point, and it wont let me restore to yesterday. I also did a virus scan, and we have no virus. Then I restarted the computer hoping it was a glitch. It wasn't.
So I would like to know how to get all these files back. My dad has all his clients information and everything that he needs asap, and i have gigabites worth of documents and pictures of my friends i want back!!!

Does your dad have all his documents (all settings the same for him)? Are
you the only one affected?

I think the computer is punishing you for using it so long... (just
kidding)

Seriously though, have you looked in the 'C:\Documents and Settings' folder?
If not, check there. See if there are two folders in there with your
username. One might be just your username (this would be the original) and
another could be username.000 or username.computername or something like
that (this would be the current working one that you're using). Basically,
it would appear as though your profile (which is under the root your
personal folder under 'C:\Documents and Settings') was corrupt and the
somputer created a new 'default' profile for you to use.

I went into my dox folder, and i typed out the entire addy for the dox folder and all and it came up!! YAY!!! all my dox and everything are back. apparently the dox folder on the start menu was set to like a temp folder. so i changed that. i tried to do the same w my faves folder, but i cant change the file path. My dad's and brothers were also affected w the same thing that happend to me. so i am going to go in their accounts to and fix there paths

And if Mike Brearly's suggestions don't resolve the issue, I suppose that
Riley can always restore all the valuable files that have been saved on his
family's regularly-scheduled computer backups.

when i was going through the windows folder, i clicked on profiles and none of our accounts were listed under it, it just said "all users". How do i get all our accounts back on there??

It'd be better to move the files from where they are now to the default
location (C:\Documents and Settings\currentprofilename\My Documents). You
can achieve this by doing what you've done already, but then going back into
the properties of the 'My Documents' folder for each user, telling it to
restore default and click yes when asked if you want to move the existing
files. That'll get everything for each user back into a single directory
instead of having it point off to another folder seperate from that person's
profile.

For the Favorites, you'll need to go to 'C:\Documents and
Settings\oldprofilename\Favorites' and move all the files from there into
'C:\Documents and Settings\currentprofilename\Favorites' (for each user).

Settings'.
