Contact the company/organisation who provides the newsgroups, and check the
status of their systems.

I have the same problem with RoadRunner mail server x number downloaded then
exits with "unkown error"

Same problem here with Verizon as ISP...
I think it's a vista thing since different people with different providers
are having the same issue...

People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did, but
people will never forget how you made them feel.

Hi Dilly:

Patches never worked for me, whether it's for smoking or anything else.
Miss seeing your stationeries though, particularly the musical ones. My
kids sisters in Boston used to love when I'd send them those from the
groups.

Betas are fun and frustrating at the same time. It's always nice to have an
insider peek at what's coming down the pike. Newsgroups just get in your
system after awhile and I feel withdrawn when I'm away from them for too
long.

Drop a line now and then. (email is valid on this post) Saw your pics about
vacationing in Cabo. One of my favorite places to unwind, but it gets to
looking more and more like San Diego each time I go. Too many golf courses
and "timeshare" condos, but that's progress I guess.

Best regards.

Jim

===========================================
Well, it's not really cheating, since the same process has been around for
quite some time. The problem is that downloading the lists of newsgroups is
extremely memory intensive and with more than 25,000 or so groups, the list
may never complete. All is not lost though, if you know the name of the
newsgroup you want to go to. It really is this simple:

Create a hyperlink to the newsgroup consisting of the following parts:
followed by: name of news server/
followed by: name of newsgroup

i.e., the following would take you to this newsgroup from the Start/Run line
with OE or WinMail shut down:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

Tom Koch has a writeup about creating a page of hyperlinks to favorite
groups on this page:

That's wierd. The newsgroup links work for me in Vista and Windows Mail.

Thought Comcast has switched exclusively to GigaNews for its customers.
Though out here on left coast of the Untied States, GigaNews has a 2GB/month
limit on downloads with the exception of headers only.
http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=NewsgroupsSoftware17506

Outlook Express will not run in Vista since msinm.exe, (the executable file)
is not found in Vista and I don't know anyone who's tried adding it.

And I just opened the Vista box to check that a newsgroup link would work.
Clicking on:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail
takes me right to this newsgroup using Windows Mail as you can see from the
headers of this post. (Ctrl+F3)

Funny This link will not work for me either.
Maybe in a weird way we are on to something. If we can figure out why it
works for you and not me maybe we can fix it.

Vista is very buggy and driving me crazy but I am addicted to making it
work! LOL
I've got it bad! Reminds me of IE4 A whole new world!!!! LOL
Lets break it and make it do crazy new stuff :)

All that comes to mind is that you may have installed Outlook or Office and
it's taken precedence as your default mail/news program. Check that Windows
Mail is in fact your default mail/news program under Tools/Options on the
General tab.

M

Mildred Savalier

I have installed almost nothing LOL
Default is checked I tried that already.
Avast and Solitaire , Then my Fuji camera software and my printer.
I still use Microsoft Image Composer and that would not install also Nero
was a no go.
Has anyone put together a list of Programs that will work?
