Does the August IE Update block SSL sites?

G

Guest

Hi all,

I used to be able to access my SSL Webmail server (Using TCP port 2096) to
access my webmail hosted on an Open Source hosting service. Following the
installation of the August cumulative update for IE, I keep getting "Server
Cannot Be Found" error messages on IE. When I tried to access the server
using Firefox, there was no problem.

Is there a problem with the latest patch?

Thanks and regards,
Francis Lee

Make sure your firewall is not blocking port 443.
Go to Start | Run and enter these commans (press <Enter after each one).

Thanks Frank. Unfortunately the problem is still with me, even after
re-registering the DLLs.

All those links that you have so kindly posted relate to problems that
cropped up before the August update. I could access the SSL site before the
August IE Cumulative Update. That was why I suspected the update has a bug...

Oh well, more troubleshooting....

Thanks and regards,

Thanks for your help Frank. I will just have to use Firefox for this and hope
MS fix the bug at the next update...

Try (in a cmd window)

netsh winsock reset

Notice that this command does not reset all winsock stack layers.

BTW Unless you have traced the link and proved that something wrong
is happening I see no "bug" in your symptom description.

Unfortunately, in the case of https: a standard packet trace may not
be very informative. For that there is this:

<title>KB307272 - How To Trace ServerXMLHTTP Calls Using the
Winhttptracecfg Tracing Tool in XML</title>

This probably isn't the best newsgroup to try to do a diagnosis of
TCP/IP stack problems on.

Good luck
