Does file sharing need UPnP running?

I have 5 machines on a home network. Folder can be shared from 4 of the 5.
The one that does not work can share the other machines folders however.
When I look at services running I find that the machine that will not share
is not running universal plug and play device host unlike the others. Is it
needed for file sharing? The reason I am asking is because I cannot start it
I just get the message "could not start universal plug and play device host
service on local computer Error 5 Access is Denied". If Upnp not the problem
I will leave it alone otherwise any ideas how I get it started I have started
dependant services HTTP and SSDP. Any ideas much appreciated.

The answer is no, sorted it thanks it was a virus protection problem.
Disabled but that not enough had to be uninstalled.
