docx converter doesn't work

I downloaded the MSOffice 2007 Beta at home. When I try to open the files in
my office I am prompted to download the converter, which I have done numerous
times.

I still cannot open a docx file and 2003 Word continually prompts me to go
to the website and get the converter.
Any suggestions?

Yes I did install it. I downloaded it again just to make sure and then
re-installed it again. No luck.

Do you have Office 2007 Beta 2 Technical Refresh at home? Do you
have Word/Office 2003 with Service Pack 1 or later at work? If
you answered no to either of these two questions, then in Word
2007 you'll need to "save as" to Word 97-2003 .doc format. Note
that Office 2007 beta software is licensed for testing and
evaluation only, and is not intended for use in a live production
environment (which is where you appear to be using it).

Thanks, Yes on MS Office 2007 Beta 2 Tech Refresh at Home. And Yes on 2003
with Service Pack 1 at work. The odd thing is that my work 2003 with the
converter worked for about two days, converting the docx files to doc, and
then it stopped.
I use my home computer as a test bed for betas and was hoping to be useful
for MS Office testing. Even so I was not aware that the docx files would not
be operational in 2003 MS Office. Perhaps I missed it. And I have been saving
docx files as 2003 docs and sending them to my office. I was hoping to
provide feedback to Microsoft about glitches so that they could be addressed
like we are doing now. I really like the new Word. I haven't tried the other
suite programs yet.
thanks,

FWIW, I believe MS has stopped accepting bug reports on the the Office 2007
Beta.

Hi Greg,

If, in Word 2003, in Tools=>Options=>General you turn on
[x] Confirm Conversions at open
then try to open a .docx file from File=>Open does Word recognize it as a 'Word 12/2007' file type in the dialog box it pops up for
the conversion?

If so, what happens when you then open the file from that point.

Hello everyone, I am experiencing the same problem with my office 2007 files.
My beta expired and I decided to return to my office 2003. I downloaded the
file converter but now everytime I try to open any file saved in 2007 I get a
message saying:
"Word experienced an error trying to open the file.
*Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
*Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space.
*Open the file with the Text Recovery converter."

This happens with every 2007 file I try to open and I have a few important
files that have been saved in this format. I have been able to open these
files in my other computer that has office 2007 and they work fine...I don't
know why the converter isn't working..
Any suggestions?

You MUST remove the old converter from the Beta before you can install the
new one from the released version.

If you do not uninstall the old one first, the new one cannot be correctly
installed and it won't work.

The question and very simple:

How to open documents saved in MS WORD 2007 BETA VERSION on MS WORD 2003.

I have read all the instructions and suggestions regarding this problem and
not one of them works.

I believe that all the answers that have been posted are just a mere guess
and the persons that have answered this question have not try to solve it by
themselves in an actual manner.

The converter does not work with documents saved in 2007 beta versions.

Thanks,
Manx

I hope somebody from ms can answer/find solutions to this problem and post
this question in the FAQ on ms website.

Hi Manx,

It's not a matter of 'guessing'. Some Office 2007 beta 2 documents may open with the Office 2007 compatibility pack in Word 2007,
but many may have problems due to changes in the file format structure between Beta 2, the Beta 2 Technical Refresh file format for
..docx/.docm and the final 'standardized' version found in the Office 2007 release products.

Files saved in the Office 2007 Beta 2 product *with* the Office 2007 Beta 2 Technical Refresh update applied to that Beta product
that updated file formats and extended the time frame for use of the beta (search on B2TR at http://microsoft.com/downloads) should,
for the most part, open correctly in the Office 2007 release product.
This article addresses work around for Office 2007 beta documents other than Word using the Office 2007 compatiblity pack with
earlier versions
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926054/en-us?FR=1

The workaround for Word 2007 files is to open the documents in a release version of Word 2007. You can use the 60 day trial copy
for that http://trymicrosoftoffice.com but you may still find that they won't all open.
