Doc name not valid

I have OFFICE 2000 and i get the following message when
itry and open a Word document:

The document name or path is not valid. Try these
suggestions.
Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document.
C:\...\file path\file name.

Is there a way of opening it and is there a hotfix for
this error?

Thanks
Brian

If this happens when you double-click on a filename in Windows Explorer (as
opposed to opening a document from the File Open dialog in Word), it could
be that Windows has lost the file association for the .doc extension. The
easiest way to correct this is to "reregister" Word (rewrite the Windows
Registry to reestablish its "ownership" of that extension). To do this,
choose Run on the Windows Start menu and type in "winword /r" (without the
quotation marks). Note that there is a space before the /r switch. Word will
not start, but you may get a message that it has been reregistered. Now try
again to open a file.

Are you trying to open it from a floppy drive? If so, don't, as this is one
of the surest ways to corrupt your document. Copy it to the HD first, then
open it from there. And never save directly to a floppy, either.
