DL - Outlook 2007 says deleted but it's not??

I have a system running Outlook 2007 on Windows Vista SP1.

One user has a private distribution list ("Board of Directors") that
suddenly stopped working. He types "bo" and "Board of Directors" shows as the
only match which he selects. The To: field shows "+Board of Directors"
underlined.

If the user tries to expand or send the email he gets a message saying the
address is not valid - perhaps it has been deleted (I don't have the exact
text).

I went to Address Book and the DL is there - doesn't appear to be any
problem with it. I did "Update Now" then "Save & Close" and the DL seemed to
work for a couple of days but it has died again.

Any ideas?

From your description, your user is using an autocompletion entry, not the
DL itself. That entry is likely corrupt. Delete it. Teach your user how to
select the DL directly.
