Distorted sound now

I have a PC running Win XP SP3 w/1 G Ram 1.3 GHz CPU. I have run a game with
embedded music for last 5-6 years but the last two weeks or so the embedded
music is very choppy. All other music (streaming or saved clips) work fine.
It appears to have something to do with the amount of graphics on screen. Is
there a chance an update may have changed how the embedded music is treated
such as prioritizing graphics over music? Seems odd that it is only the past
couple of weeks.

I've updated drivers to try to cure it but no luck.

Have lots of anti-(virus, spyware, adware, etc.), and run spybot, hijackthis
and others but find very little. My PC also appears to be very stealth on the
Internet.

I'd appreciate any ideas. Thank you.

Just checked again and streaming audio is affected also. Without the game
running, sound is OK. No update of the game has been made, only the OS. I
will check on game updates to see if the sound problem goes away. Keep
thinking.

Fixed! Did a system file scan using "sfc scannow" and had two bad files.
Works fine now.
