MIDI files do not play in IE6

I

Ilene

I am no longer able to hear embedded MIDI tunes on
websites. If the website has embedded streaming music I
can hear that--just not MIDIs. For example: I can hear
what is playing at
http://www.ourchurch.com/member/c/callusblessed but I
cannot hear what is supposed to be playing at
http://www.ourchurch.com/view/?pageID=17829 . I gave
those URL's with the hope that someone might be able to
determine what plug-in I am missing--or whatever it is
that is turned off.

I have made sure the File Type is set to WMP for
MIDI files, and I can open and play MIDI files resident
on my pc. I am leary of re-installing WMP9 because I'm
afraid of compounding an exsisting issue not to mention
the waste of time. Strangely, I can hear embedded
background sounds including MIDI's using OE6. When
viewing a webpage, for some strange reason, the
space that should contain a small WMP at the bottom of
the 2nd web page I gave in my example only appears as a
place holder and no sound is heard. I also created a
simple HTM file in NOTEPAD using MIDI's on my pc and have
the same result--no sound in the browser. Only the
appearance of place holders where the player should be.

Is it possible I am missing a necessary plug-in? Is it
possible one of the updates to correct a vulnerability
closed this area of MIDI playback as embedded background
music in IE6? I read about an issue at:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=819696 Might this be
the culprit?

If after reading this you feel reinstalling WMP is my
only solution (besides reformatting/restoring) please let
me know.

Thank you,

Ilene

OK--I am now able to hear music within webpages because I
found a registry key at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.mid that showed it was
looking for QuickTime 4.0. I don't know how that got
changed to open with Quicktime but I didn't have the
necessary plug-in to play MIDI'S until I downloaded it.
So, how do I get it to go back to opening with WMP? I
have it installed and functioning. I checked my file
associations and they are set for *.mid and *.midi to
open with WMP and they do if I click on a file on my HD
just not from within IE6. How do I adjust the browser to
utilize WMP instead of QuickTime?
