diskette drive 0 seek faliure

have a dell 4600 , bought a harddrive 250 gig, and dual 1 gig ram
512mb each. installed both have tried removing them going back to m
original setup because everything runs insanely slow. i decided t
get a system restore done see if that helps, after reboot, the dis
does not read even with the old ram and harddrive, i get th
following message

diskette drive 0 seek faliur
SATA primary drive 0 not foun
SATA secondary drive 0 not foun
Primary drive 1 not foun

please help :crybaby

clear the CMOS...pull the battery or use the jumper with the mains off.
and if you have the ESCD reset option (configuration data) use it when ever
you change our major hardware.

Did specify a Dell when you bought the drive and memory, out of interest?
A while ago I bought a bog-standard cdrw drive and installed it in a Dell
for someone and no dice, yet it works fine in three non-Dell boxes I tried
it in.
Needless to say, this leads me to believe that Dell mess with either the
BIOS or IDE controllers in some way to make non-dell stuff not work in their
boxes. I know in the past they have used non-standard PSU's for example
(been there - done that!).
