"Diskeeper" and XP and NT server

Pete

I've had some bad luck using Diskeeper (defragger) on XP and NT.

On XP it just hangs at 86% done. I let it hang all weekend!
It won't work at all on the NTFS volume of NT.

I don't know where else to ask these questions.
Anyone else have this problems with Diskeeper? Any solutions??

Are you using an older version?

BTW: does Windows defrag work OK?

If you have the same problem with Windows defrag...there may be a harddrive
problem.

These are two machines in excellent condition.
I have the right version for the software/hardware installed. Furthermore,
NT server comes with no defrag.
Yes, the defrag that came with XP did used to work.
Help somebody out there!!!

So you are saying that XP defrag *and* your 3rd party defrag do not work???

If that's the case...go to the website of your harddrive's manufacturer
and download their diagnostic utility and run it on the drive. If it finds
any problems
back up your drive at once and replaced the HD . (If it's under
warranty...get an RMA)

If the drive has no defects...then boot from your XP cd and from the
recovery console
run chkdsk /r
