Disk Space

I have Sony Vaio that came partitioned from the factory
with 20GB on the C drive and 60GB on the D drive. I am
running out of space on the C drive. I have 2.5GB left. Is
there any way I can repartition this the C drive to have
more space, and reduce the space of the D drive? (without
reformatting of course)

Move files to D drive? To move programmes you need to uninstall and reinstall. Move Temporary Internet Files -Start, Control Panel,General tab, Temporary Internet Files, Settings, Move Folder.

How good is your housekeeping?

1. In Outlook Express empty your Deleted Items folder.

2. In Outlook Express run File, Folder, Compact All whilst OFFLINE.

3. Run Disk Cleanup. Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup.

4. Run Disk Defragmenter.

You could try a program like Partition Magic. It will allow you to
repartition the drive on the fly.

I can't remember who makes it, very popular though. Do a search on
google for Partition Magic.

Best of luck!

I have exactly the same computer and partitions. It would
be a lot easier for you to move personal files (such as
the ones that you generate with Wordperfect 10 for
correspondence, or Quattro Pro spreadsheets you make)
over to the D: drive and then repoint WP10 and other
programs to open in the D drive.

How do you tell programs to "repoint" into D when opening?

I am a novice user.

thanks,

Using WP10 as an example: Open the program, click on
tools, then settings and then click on files. You will
see a window open where you can change your preferences
as to which directory WP10 will open first and save to
first, etc.

Same principles (perhaps different places in your toolbar
for finding the right place to change settings) for
Excel, Word, Lotus 1-2-3, etc.

As these people said, use PartitionMagic, then do the following:

1) Start it up, click on C: and in the task list, click "Resize a
partition".

2) Select the C: partition to be resized.

3) The next screen asks you how large you want C: to be- enter your new
size.

4) Since you only have D: as a second partition, just click Next. (Space
from D: will be taken)

5) Confirm, then click Apply (in the task list) Your PC will reboot into the
same type of mode used by CHKDSK and resize your partition.

Note that you must have the full version of PM, unfortunately. The demo
cannot resize your partition.

Of course, your final decision is to use your Recovery CD and change the
partition size in the Recovery setup window.
