Switching C:/ to D:/

Guest

I have a problem. When I purchased my Sony factory refurbished computer the
hard drive was partitioned with C: & D: drives with C: having only 13 GB of
space alotted and D: with the rest of the 250 GB of space. I am constantly
receiving the running out of disc space when using my computer. I have been
downloading everything possible to D: drive but still have the problem with
lack of space on the C: drive my start up drive. How can I switch my start up
drive or C: drive to D: where all the space is? Can anyone help me with this?

You need to move the partition so C: gets bigger and D: gets smaller.
Partition Magic does this but I beleve that there is something in
Windows XP

What are you storing on the C: partition other than the OS and applications?
I run XP SP2 on a 10GB partition and still have 2 GB free and that includes
Office 2003 and Open Office. All my data is on D partition.

You need use partition management software to accomplish your task. XP Home
or Pro does not have the partitioning capability you need.
A couple of utilities I have used and fully recommend are listed below
BootIT NG from Terabyte has a full function 30 day trial.

PartitionMagic from Symantec

No, neither Windows XP nor any other version of Windows provides any way of
changing the existing partition structure of the drive nondestructively. The
only way to do this is with third-party software. Partition Magic is the
best-known such program, but there are freeware/shareware alternatives. One
such program is BootIt Next Generation. It's shareware, but comes with a
free 30-day trial, so you should be able to do what you want within that 30
days. I haven't used it myself (because I've never needed to use *any* such
program), but it comes highly recommended by several other MVPs here.

Whatever software you use, make sure you have a good backup before
beginning. Although there's no reason to expect a problem, things *can* go
wrong.
