disk full? No its not. "Cannot create phonebook entry?"

Got called to a friends machine. WinXP SP 2

She suddenly cannot make her netscape internet program run, (its a
modem dialup, not broadband) so I figure to test her system by using
my MSN account to verify the modem and network capabilities.

I create the new connection, but when it comes time to save the
connection information, it says "cannot create phonebook entry. Disk
full or write protected"

Well, its an 80G with only 7G used on the one big C partition. Write
protected? I don't think so.

Her netscape dialer software gives pretty much the same error message,
unable to write phonebook entry.....

This all happened after she did the Norton 2006 update stuff. Prior to
that, no problem'os.

I tried a system restore back to before she did Norton, and it does all
the cool stuff, reboots, and finally says the system cannot be
restored. I am guessing, for the same reason that I cannot make a new
dialup account, or use Netscape.

Given that smidgen of information, anyone care to guess where I should
look?

Much obliged for any hints or suggestions.

Start
Run
services.msc
Check to see if the two remote access services are enabled.

Thanks Galen. I do not see multiple services in the listing. Seems
rather an odd occurence to me, and I cannot help but think Norton 2006
is somehow involved. I am considering uninstalling it, but if it has
done something to XP or its file system, I don't reckon that would be
of much help.

I shall persevere, but thanks for the help, I sure do appreciate it.

I'd go ahead and leave Norton installed for the moment (I never dreamed I'd
say such a thing but let us not compound the issues for now) and then when
finally removing it I'd follow their directions and scour these newsgroups
to find other people who've removed it successfully. (There aren't that
many, it hooks into the OS at levels that are frightening and while I don't
want to get in on such a hot debate subject I'm personally grateful that
Microsoft has decided to lock the AV vendors - and malware vendors - from
the depths of the OS.)

If you only have one listed make sure it's started and set to automatic.
When you start it see if it stays started. If you could do me a favor, well
you really, look in the event log (eventvwr.msc) and let me know what you
find there that happened at about the same time as when you tried to make
the changes. I'll need the event ID number and the source of the event. In
the mean-time, if you'd rather, head to www.eventid.net (one of my favorite
sites and not just 'cause they give me free subscriptions) and you can do
some basic lookups on your own though some of the features won't work
without a subscription.
