Disappearing Restore Points

I have noticed that my restore points disappear at various times, usually
accompanied by a short burst of disk activity. What Causes this? Is it
serious? How can I cure it?

Thanks!

Hi,

When new points are created, old ones are removed - there is only so much
space allotted to that function. The default is 12% of the available drive
space, but you can reduce this. Certain updates like the Service Packs also
remove older restore points. Also, running disk cleanup can also do this if
you have the option set.

There is a limit to the amount of space made available to restore
points. Once this fills, the oldest ones are dropped as a new one is
made. In any case they will be dropped after 90 days. You should
realised that SR is a short term means of unwinding system problems, it
is *not a backup and certainly not a long term one. In practice the 12%
of a drive allotted to it by default is probably too much on any big
drive - I would keep it under 1GB, and there will be much less chance of
it getting tied in knots
