Direct Cable Connection/Cat5

Trying to connect xp pro (host) to xp home (guest) using
direct cable.

I'm able to connect at 4.0Mpb, however, I am unable to view
share folders from guest to host or the whole c drive from
host to guest.

Any suggestions on how I can make the 2 connected computer
to share anything?

I've tried cat5 from pc to pc, but I can't even get them to
connect. And of course, there's the problem of file
share/recgonition from pc to pc.

For information on Direct Cable Connection using a parallel cable,

A CAT5 connection between two computers requires a crossover cable,
which reverses the transmit and receive wires between the ends. A
regular CAT5 cable won't work.
