Did Mailwasher Free moved to crippleware?

Martyn

Hi,
If I am wrong please let me know. I am not talking about the Pro version but
Did MailWasher 2.0 (Free) moved to crippleware with its latest free
version?. I think they've restricted the account number to one. But with
previous free versions there was no restrictions was there?.

Prior to MailWasher going shareware, there was a beta version that allowed
unlimited number of accounts. When the program did go shareware, that beta
version disappeared off of his site. There might still be someone in this
group that might be able to send it to you.

After development of the free version of MailWasher was suspended
(retrograded?), I decided to try something else. I went to the Pricelessware
site and found PopTray http://www.poptray.org/index.php . This is an
excellent program that works with all POP3 clients. It will notify of new
mail at a time interval that you determine, and will allow you to view and
delete your mail on the server. Unlike MailWasher there is no Bounce
feature; however, many here have discredited bouncing as an effective SPAM
control.

Last freeware version to support multiple accounts was 1.33

I found and use this one that works very well and has multiple account setup and
a few more features.

PP MailCheck

http://www.ppsoft.dk/Mailcheck_Eng_dump.htm

With PP MailCheck you can easily handle the mails on a POP3 server, it allows
you to preview the mails from the server and direct delete those you don't want
to download by your default Mail Client

At the same time you can return mail. If someone sends you a mail, and you are
not sure about it, just replay the mail, MailCheck can, if you want it to,
insert details about the mail you got.

You can also send simple mail with it.

PP MailCheck has several options to inform you about new mails. You can get a
cool popup, a balloon hint from tray bar or a sound! The cool popup does not
only tell you that you got mail, but also who sent the mail and the subject of
the mail.

But it doesn't precheck nearly if not all spam for delete, making it just
one click.

But I want to send emails by my default program so I know where the copies
are.

Bells and whistles I can do without, I just want a simple effective
spamguard. I don't want to put down the others - I'm sure they fit other
profiles, but nothing cuts it like m/w for me, and I'm very thankful for
the recent post here that pointed me to vers 1.33

Actually, I'm running a version 2.0.28 beta that supports multiple accounts
and is free (and not cracked).

I was talking about a full release but you're right, beta version 2.0.28
supports multiple accounts.

Prolly wrong thing to say, but I gave the developer USD$20 up front when it
was first freeware/donationware (if you wanted to); because of my generous
;) donation, I was given the payware version 3.0, now 3.01 free. Other than
the bounce feature, I like it fine and since I got it basically cheap (I
think it's $30 or so now) I'll keep it until a freeware app performs better.
