We recently downloaded Windows xp service pack 2. Since
then whenever we disconnect from the internet, dial-up
automatically attempts to reconnect to the internet
within a few minutes. How can we prevent this attempted
automatic reconnection?

I can't be much help, but I have a similar problem. Do you
get the network connections dialog box telling you that you
or a program requested information from, then lists a web site?

This is not a clean fix, but it should work. Run msconfig
and turn off the autodialed (service). May also have to run
regedit, search for the program trying to access the
network and delete.

.no, we're not part of any network so all network functions are turned off
