Desktop Wallpaper Always White After Bout With Adware.

I had a nasty bout with adware. After a few hours and two different types of
adware cleaning software, I got control of my computer back.

During the episode, the spyware slapped this huge ad on the background of
my desktop, as a wallpaper.

After I did regain control of my computer, the desktop backgrpound was
actually an html file. That is, when I right-clicked on it, it would show me
the properties of a file, not the usual desktop properties menu. I found
and deleted the html file in question.

Ever since, however, my desktop background is always all white. Right-click
works as before, but changing backgrounds only makes the display fliker for
a second but it stays white. I tried regclean to no avail. The kid at
CompUsa said to change the resolution of the display back and forth. This
did not work either.

Any help as to how to regain control of my desktop background will be
appreciated.

Thanks.

Using the Display applet in Control Panel, click on the Desktop tab and
from there click on the Customize Desktop button. Now click on the Web
tab. Uncheck the box next to My Current Home Page and make sure the box
next to "Lock desktop items" is unchecked. Apply and OK out.

Thanks very much! The box actually read "Security" instead of
"My Current Home Page". But I unchecked it and I've regained
control of my desktop background.

Again, many thanks.

That must have been because of the malware. I'm so glad it worked and
you're happy.
