Desktop icons.

I have a laptop with Windows XP Home. The name labels for the shortcut icons
on my desktop have somehow aquired a rectangular backround shadow/colour
which makes them standout from the desktop background. How do I get rid of
this - I want the icon labels just on their own without any shadow etc. I
have tried a number of things, ie. clearing the drop shadow box option under
Performance Options and and various options under Appearance and Options, but
nothing works. Any suggestions how to fix this? (other than using System
Restore). Thanks .

In the Appearance window select the Advanced button
Under Item, select Desktop and under Color select 1
then click OK

Thanks but this doesn't solve the problem - by chosing Color 1 all I seem to
be able to do is change the colour, ie.not get rid of the icon label
backround althogether, just other leaving the icon label itselfwhich is what
I want. Any other suggestions anyone?

Thanks.

You could have a look at Iconoid desktop manager.
