Desktop Icons Reappear After Reboot

Everytime I reboot my Windows 2000 PC, all of the items
that were deleted from my desktop (and emptied from the
recycle bin) reappear.

It's getting very cluttered and I'm getting very
frustrated! Any idea what controls this/what I need to
change?

Sounds like you profile isn't unloading.
