unwanted icons

I have deleted all unwanted icons from my desktop but they reappear after
every restart despite empying the recycle bin. The desktop is filling up fast
with clutter. Any suggestions would be welcome.

You could run the Desktop Cleanup Wizard and see if this helps
To do this:
1) Right Click on your Desktop
2)Click properties
3)Then select the Desktop tab
4)Then click sustomize Desktop
5)Click Clean Desktop Now

Thanks for the reply Media-Man
I have already run Desktop Cleanup but there is no sign in the window of the
icons for the files and folders that keep reappearing. In Cleanup only the
applications are visible (I'm happy to leave those on the desktop). It's the
word and excel files etc. that wont go away.
