Desktop icons don't stay where I put them

I recently installed a Western Digital external hard disk
(Media Center 160 GB).

Since then, every time I start or re-start, my desktop
icons move, re-packing on the left side of the screen.

Any suggestions on how to prevent this appreciated.

You may try this edit after changing the configurations.
Save Settings on Exit (Line 55)

Right click on the desktop.. select 'Arrange icons by'.. uncheck 'auto
arrange'..
