Desktop Display Properties Closes when selecting JPG wallpaper

Hi Microsoft experts...

When selecting a jpg image in the desktop control panel (right click
Desktop/properties/desktop) it just closes.. when rightclicking a jpg
and selecting "set as wallpaper" it's ok..

It's just not possible to select a jpg as a wallpaper via the Desktop
Display Properties control panel... the window just closes by itself..

It's also not possible to change to a theme that has a jpg as
wallpaper.. clicking on the themefile just gives nothing..

Can anyone please help me on this one?

Thanks,

RA

Hello,

I am experiencing the same problems. I recently installed some updates
to Windows XP and this problem started soon after. I can't track it
down. Have you made any recent installs?

Thanks!

I did... :

Windows Media Player 9 Series (Windows XP)
NVIDIA display software update released on May 02 2003
820291
817787
817606
823559
823718
823980
815021
811493
819696
821557
822925

I suspect that the NVIDIA display driver software update is causing
the issue.. I updated to the latest drivers directly from the NVIDIA
driver site (version 6.14.10.52.16).. issue is still remaining..

Rejoice!

I have found the solution to this very annoying problem! It seems that
some adware was installed onto my system through Active X controls.
Search for xplugin.dll on your hard drive or do a Google search to
learn more.

You need to unregister this using the following statement in run:

regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\System32\xplugin.dll

Reboot and voila! Back to normal! How rude of these people to assume
we want their system corrputing crap quietly installed behind our
backs. Shame on them.

Spread it around because it's not really all that known as you might
have guessed since so many people have been having this problem
without a solution.

Thanks,

Fala

Cool!
BUT...
I'm not able to find xplugin.dll on my hd... so it must be hidden in
some other dll-file.. How did you find that xplugin.dll was causing
the issue? Maybe I can follow the same procedure to locate the dll
that is causing the issue at my pc..

Eureka!

Indeed it was a TMKSoft adware/spyware that was causing the problem!
I downloaded spybot and scanned my system, it cleaned some registry
entries. After that, I updated ad-Aware by downloading the latest
reffile from their website (the automatic update was not working
anymore!). Ad-Aware found some adware in my XP system restore backup
files! After cleaning everything the issue is solved!

THANKS FALA!!!!!!!

I HATE ADWARE!!!!!

thanks you guys, I have the same problem, and am trying to solve it no
with your ideas about spyware. BTW, is there a way to see if a spy- o
adware program is installing itsself on your computer, e.g. with
program comparable with a popup killer or something like that?

Will keep you up 2 date if it works for me too!
