Desktop Backgrounnd motion

Problem solved. I found out that my Ultimate was not activated automatically
after the last fresh install (I had the flag checked to do it automatically
when installation ended ?).
After a succesfull activation, all Vista Ultimate Extra became available,
including Dreamscene.

Hope this helps others.

During CES Keynote they showed desktop background with waterfall then
started it flowing, Does anyone know how to do that. Thank You Randy

It's not a Waterfall, but just an animated Aurora display.
Not as exciting as the Waterfall.

Hopefully one day, we'll get that one though, and the waving grass..

I still think it's a bit of a cheek to charge extra for "Ultimate extras"
that are promised, and then released as "previews" (i.e. not completed)!...
If it's preview, we should all (at least those with the physical hardware
requirements that is) have the chance to use it!

Dreamscene; Seemed like a good idea.
Why on earth use avi format? Was it so that 'home' users could put family
videos up as their background? If so, why have it exclusive to Ultimate
(professional users) and not the Home edition?

IMO, if it's an Ultimate add-on, it should be in a cpu friendly format,
which pro users know how to publish in or at least learn.
Or do Microsoft have problems using other companies less cpu intensive
formats?
.....Adobe. It would be fine if it was a cacheable format, that only used
such a large % of cpu first loop, but continuously?
I for one after trying it out; Will not be using it.

Yet again another M$ OS that 'could have been', and this add-on is just a
frickin' joke.

WOW? Don't think so.

Call this a rant if you like; But it's the truth.

I haven't used DreamScene - it seems like pure fluff to me and I haven't
gotten around to testing fluff on Vista yet. I suppose one day I will play
with it just for fun - after the release version.

But I agree with you about Microsoft and their "could have beens". It seems
lately that Microsoft software is just so "almost the answer". Media Center
is an example. I installed it, thought it was absolutely cool. Then I used
it and found out that it is almost fantastic software but the difference
between almost and being fantastic made it useless to me. I have seen that
trend in most everything they do for the last 3 or 4 years. They take a
great idea and quit just before it becomes a great implementation.

Anyones knows if there is a way to to play the movie on just one screen (when
you use more than one). so that a movie plays on one screen while there is a
picture on the other?

I have vista ultimate and I can't get dreamscene yet, I'm in the UK and i'm
using an OEM version if that helps.

I wish Microsoft would let us know when we can have it. Us British always
get everything last, hah.

same here, it doesn't show up in Ultimate Extras for me either. I however
got the Swedish version and I'm using a MSDN version if that is of any
importance.

I belive it is for the ultimate version only.

ill vouch for that! Given we end up with US lanaugage UI etc etc, it feels
all the more painful that we have to wait so long!

I'm in the UK & have Ultimate.
Dreamscene is an optional dowwnload here but have not installed it as it a
preview release.
Will look at it when it is the final.

I was upset to when I realized only ultimate had this option. That was never
said that it was only in that version. I hope they will decide to let the
Home Premium people have it.

Hi Randy, i am new to Vista having just purchased a new Dell notebook with
Windows Vista Premium preinstalled. The feature you are speaking about, at
the CES Keynote Dreamweaver Waterfall scene, is on the Vista Ultimate
Edition, if you are using Home Premium, you probably can upgrade with a
Windows CD.

You use it as a background / wallpaper. Go to Personalize -> Desktop
Background -> In the combobox, select "Windows Dreamscene Preview" [Or any
other video], click "OK", and it should be there.

Can someone tell me how to activate the DreamScene? I have received it as an
ultimate extra and unsure what to do with it.

Thanks for your time.

You dont activate it - when its installed, just go to personalize and you
will now be able to set videos as desktop backgrounds as well as pictures.

To "activate" Dreamscene... right click the desktop, select "Personalize"
....Select "Desktop Background"...Open the Location dropdown window and select
Windows Dreamscene Content, there will only be one .mpg available for
selection. Click OK.

Well, I think Home Premium users got one stuck in the butt.
Why is this an Ultimate feature only?
No wonder Apple is making so many commericals about how much MS/Vista sucks.
Was my $160 "upgrade" not enough money for Billy Boy for Dreamscene?

<--- Paid $160 for a new windows theme and the annoying as p*ss "User
Account Control"

Apparently, Microsoft is pulling another fast one. I have been a Vista Beta
tester for over 7 months now, and it was posted by Microsoft that I would
receive Technical Support for the Beta, and that the Beta is good until
05/31/07. And this is the Ulitimate Editon. But, now that Vista has been
publicly released, DreamScene will not install on my "version" of Vista
apparently because now I am notified by Microsoft that Beta versions are no
longer eligible for Technical Support. With Microsoft's EULA actually not
being legally enforceable, and all the frustrations of dealing with
Microsoft's bullshit and lies, it's almost enough to make me go to Linux.

Change your desktop background and look through the menu options. Windows
DreamScene and DreamScene Content are what you are looking for.

You can also set it to the sample videos in public but I find them way to
distracting. MS did not seem to supply the waterfall by the way.
