Dell XP Oem - disconnects from 2000 server resources

I am a network admin who supports about 70 clients connecting to 3
windows 2000 servers. About a quarter of them are running the Dell XP
pro OEM. I have a mixture of 2000 pro, Win 98, and XP full versions.
Only the Dell XP pro OEM disconnect periodically from network resources
such as our exchange server and network shares. The only way to fix
the problem is to log off and log back on. Does anyone know what
causes this and how to fix it? These PCs disconnect about 2x a day and
its affecting production.

There are, of course, several possible causes and several
possible solutions and workarounds.

It could be power saving for Ethernet adapters or a wrong
setting. First thing I'd do is update all affected Ethernet
adapter drivers. Then I would add a different Ethernet adapter
to one computer for a test.
