XP Pro disconnects from the Domain

Shelley

If I let my computer sit for 10 or more minutes without
having a file from the server open (win 2000 server), it
disconnects me and I have to log off and back on again.

I've looked everywhere for a solution.

It's only happening to the XP pro workstations. The 98
workstations stay connected.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi NG

Sorry I cant provide a solution.
I am having a similar problem on Win2000.

On a small LAN (1 x Win2000Server and 4 x Win2000Pro machines) we upgraded 3
of the desktops to WinXP.
We needed to keep 1 Win2000 box for testing. Since the upgrade, the Win2000
box continually gets disconnected from the network every 30-60 minutes
(varies), and it takes ±2 minutes before mapped drives, etc can be accessed
again.

Hi,

I know this might sound silly, but I have had similar
problems but yours seems to be a different one. However
why don't you try this step.

Start -> Control Panel (Switch to Classic View)->
Display -> Screen Saver -> Uncheck, On resume, display
Welcome Screen check box.

If this is not your problem, then you need to talk to
someone from the windows 2k pro.

BEST OF LUCK!

XP disconnection issue

1. Try to disable autodisconnection feature first.
2. If disabling autoconnection doesn't fix the problem and other
workstations don't have the same issue, check the hardware settings, for
example, configure the computer' network cards for half duplex. Most Hubs
don't support full duplex.

Check if you have the correct DNS server configured on your client machine for the domain.
