Deleting graphics program ?

Hi John, if the number you think you`ll want to keep is a lot less than the
ones to delete, then create a new folder, pull the keepers into it, then
delete the whole original folder. Only a thought. best wishes..J

Actually, IrfanView does have an "auto next" option. Go to Option\Properties,
click the "File Handling" tab, and look at the Delete section. Put a check next
to "Jump to the next file on deleting/moving".

Ah !!! Thank you. I hadn't noticed that. :)

Regards, John.

A very good thought too. Sometimes one cannot see the forest because
the trees are in the way.

Thanks for your reply. :)

I've loaded folder with over 3500 images in them into Irfanny and it
didn't even bat an eye.

Try again with 10,000+ different graphics in one folder on a 98SE
system. :)
It did take a couple of seconds to load them
all in the thumbnail window <smile>, but it did it. So any limitations
you are experiencing are a result of your 'puter, not the proggy.

Umm. No. Other graphics editors work fine. Also, last time I mentioned
this other people here confirmed the same problem. That was a number
of versions ago though. IV is looking better with the current version.
Also, from my experience, I have found that corrupt graphics files can
upset some graphics viewers. If you don't have any corrupt graphics
files then you probably don't know how IV would treat them on your
system.

Okay, suppose I have a folder with thousands of graphics in. What is
the best program that would allow me to quickly/easily scroll through
them and delete selected ones as I go ?

The most "basic" thing would be NOT to have a..

"Are you sure you want to delete this ?"

"Are you really sure you want to delete this ?"

"Are you really really sure you want to delete this ?"

"Are you really really really sure you want to delete this ?"

popup when pressing the delete key.

Being able to have the above AND to press the delete key
and * automatically * have the next graphic appear would
be the ideal.

Clicking the "next" button gets rather tedious after a few hundred
times. :-(

Does such a program exist please ?

Regards, John.

I would use TrackerV3 for this. Just did a trial and found about 20,000 jpg
files in 74 seconds on my hard drive.
They are presented as a single list which could be scrolled through,
previewed and then highlighted and deleted in batches. It can search drives
or folders (with subfolders).

So how did you turn off the "Are you sure...." dialog when deleting ?

How do you make multiple selections ? Hold down the control key ?
Tiresome after selecting hundreds of deletions. Also, dangerous if
after selecting dozens/hundreds of files to delete you accidentally
click off and have to start all over again.

Tracker doesn't seem to work with DMEX (the shell extension) so I am
not too keen to use it as a file manager. Takes too long when going to
my various "favourite folders".

As discussed here recently, it also doesn't have a normal two pane
view. Like I use in Explorer.

Added to that, when I told it to create thumbnails I couldn't work out
how to turn it off. Very annoying.

Thumbs mode on/off: Ctrl+F8
Abort creating thumbs: ESC

Worked out how to get it started. But didn't know it was a toggle.
I assumed closing the program would turn that off.

Ah ! Thanks for the reply. :)

Is that documented somewhere ?

It's in the help file. But after reading your post I added the "ESC info" to
the statusbar: it's now always shown while creating thumbs.
