Replaceing graphics board

D

Don

Win XP Home, Sony Vaio 4 yrs old
Instructions say to remove card drivers in control panel add/delete key. I
found my driver there, but is it really necessary to remove the drivers?
Won't the graphics board pick out the right (newest) driver? Say that maybe
the board won't work right and I have to remove it, then I would have to
reinstall the driver I deleted. I replaced a graphics board a while ago
never deleted driver, the card worked just fine. What is your thoughts on
this?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

by not removing old drivers, you could cause a conflict between new drivers
and old ones, if not a conflict, then a possible slowdown of processing by
loading stuff in memory that is not needed, it's always best to remove the
old drivers first and revert back to VGA mode, before installing new hardware
and drivers.

Even when updating drivers for the same card, removing the old driver, then
installing the new one is the way to go. Lessens the chances of leaving
behind a stub that may not be totally compatible with the new driver.
