What is happening with the email? This seems to be a sudden and unexplained
issue with Visa Windows Mail. Is there anyone that can actually be contacted
in order to correct the issue? Very frustrating. Have tried all suggestions
but nothing is working.

There is no email meltdown. The sky is not falling.
My Windows Mail is working as well as it ever did.
If you want help with your issue you will have to describe the
details of the problem you are having.

Gary VanderMolen,
I beg to differ...there is an email meltdown. I don't think "ksentavo"
needed to reiterate all of the problems happening with Windows Mail
associated with deleting deleted emails. If you notice, there are at 46 posts
defining problems and attempting to help others with the same problems. I
think it is safe to assume that he posted his comment under the correct
heading. If you aren't having problems with Windows Mail, then lucky you -
the rest of us are getting extremely frustrated.

Now, when can we expect Microsoft to offer a "fix" to the problem of not
being able to delete deleted emails...Vista users have been struggling for
months. I personally have 147 deleted messages that are waiting to be deleted
permanently.

46 posts defining problems out of several million users hardly constitues
meltdown especially as those problems tend to be of a cosmetic nature
such as not being able to make the deleted message box look empty.

Of the other more critical problems such as not being able to
send and receive mail many are user errors... ie. wrong details in to
account set up,
or interference by loss-leader junk ware supplied by PC manufacturers.

Further 99% of problems encountered on this group have already been solved
and given a little time and thought in searching the forum the answers are
there already.

Julian already answered this better than I could have.

Even if Windows Mail were a total failure (and it's *not* for
most users), it is not the be-all and end-all of email as we know it.
There are always plenty of other good email programs one can
use.

There are certainly annoying problems with WinMail. The only thing I've
seen that seems to work is to go to Edit | Empty deleted items and do it
several times.

You could wipe out the database, but that's rather extreme.

Maybe 46 posts does not constitute an all out epidemic, but this is just one
thread. There are hundreds of posts with this same problem but just listed
under different threads. I know because I have read them all trying to solve
my problem. And I'll be willing to wager that there are hundreds and hundreds
more people that read these posts and don't respond or submit their own.

Has there been any official acknowledgement from Microsoft that Windows Mail
MIGHT have a problem? Is there any indication that a fix is in the works?

I have tried all the suggestions given in this community and still have
trouble. When I delete an email the actual wording in the message section
disappears but the sender, subject, date, time, etc. still remains as an
email with a generic message that reads:
"Message could not be displayed
Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.
-Windows Mail"

I might add, I do NOT have low memory or low disk space. This seems to be a
Windows Mail (or Vista) glitch, not a hardware problem.

I have managed to clear my deleated items box after a backlog of 300
undeleatable messages and numerous tries
Leave "out box" open, right click on deleated items folder and choose
deleate. For some reason it does not work if you open deleated items folder
I was deleating one at a time then all of sudden deleated items folder emptied
Now what ever I put in folder deleats ok
Come on Windows, if an engineer with no computer qualifications can solve
this problem then why couldn't one of your whizz kids. It seems like we are
left to fend for ourselves, despite numerous error reports and emails to you

Thank you Duncan, your suggestion has worked for me. I still think it is an
unacceptable solution in the big picture. Microsoft should already have a fix
for this. When I click delete and then click permanently delete it seems to
me that should be all I have to do. Why do I have to open a different fold to
delete something in another folder? Trying different suggestions is NOT a
professional way to "fix" problems. Come on Microsoft - don't leave your
Vista users stranded.

If you do that same thing with every message you can delete them, one at a
time. I did it i does work

This worked great!!! Now should I delete the "Windows Mail" folder that I
moved to the C:\ directory?

I can confirm that this method works. I had about 60 messages that I was
unable to delete so I tried the right click method, after deleting about 10
messages individually it suddenly deleted the whole lot. This is still an
annoying problem.

Is there a solution to this problem? I can't delete the files from my
deleted files folder in Windows Mail. I have only used Windows Mail for a
week.

Thank you Duncan, this one actually helped me. Unfortunately, I didn't find
your answer until I had 850 emails in my deleted items folder. It did delete
chucks (15-20 messages) some times, but for the most part I had to do this
several hundred times to get them emptied. What a pain!

I still have one in my outbox I can't get rid of. Because of this I can no
longer send email from that email account. I hope to find an answer soon.

Like a few others said, I had checked the option to empty deleted items on
exit and have this problem. My husband does not have that option checked and
he does not have the problem.

Perfect!

I had found the post about deleting "one by one" to get rid of the mail in
deleted items but still had issues with my Outbox. This link gave me what I
needed to know for that problem.

I think Microsoft should have this link in the Knowledge Base. Maybe I need
to look at Live Mail?

Thanks again.
