Deleted Email Content

Twice now, an email has arrived with the usual pop up envelope in the lower
right hand corner. I was able to read the first sentence or so of the email,
but when I opened it in my Inbox, there was not content from the sender,
including what I saw in that popup envelope. Any ideas WHAT is happening? And
suggestions as to HOW I fix it??

version of Outlook?
Do you have any Rules running?
What view of the Inbox are you in? eg Unread messages?
Does it stop when you turn off the Preview/Reading Pane?
