Defrag help

HI,

I have a 80GB XP primary drive I am trying to defrag with the XP defrag
option.

The first time it took a while, now it still shows a lot of defrag
files/folders but every time I do it, it lasts a few seconds then finishes.

How can I go further with the defrag.

I only have my Avast virus progs going when I do it.

Thanks

Disconnect from the internet and shut off Avast and then defrag. Shut down
any running program that you don't need while defragging and/or try
defragging in Safe Mode.

in addition to regular
defrag-ing

you can also install
"page defrag" from
microsoft.com

it runs at boot time
and defrags the registry
and other system files
that regular defrag can
not.

Thanks guys..

I used the free AusLogics and was able to defrag to 0% instead of 63%
with the inbuilt XP defrag.

Will try the MS one for the the registry etc.
