defender updates

keep getting sheild with update for defender when i update it does this
twenty some times. go to microsoft says downloaded but automatic up date
keeps popping up with the same update. definition 1.13.1286.1 over and over.
if someone can help let me know right away or this defender is going into the
junk pile. i do not need this headache on my computer

I have the same problem as well. Ihave tied running a Repair on Defender &
installing the update from Microsoft Update. Still getting the shield,
wanting to install the update & Windows Defender reports Signatures as
1.13.1282.6

I had this problem and used this fix from another post, worked for me.
Go to
C/Programs/Windows Defender/
Right click on
AS_Sigs.MSI
Click uninstall
Close the folders and then open Defender and check for updates from the help/about.
Good luck

adie thanks but i had to format hard drive last night because of it and today
reinstalled and all is ok shield is now gone and defender took the update
give it a try
are you male or female and where from? single?

thanks nicob and i reformated the hard drive due to defender and losing my
internet connection since then it is working have a great day

thanks bill i formatted the hard drive installed defender again and all is
working it updated and since no problems shield is gone and no more popping up

That second step cured it for me!

2) If that fails or gives an error message, get the Windows Installer
Cleanup tool:

Install it, and use it to remove the installer bits for just the signature
update portion of Windows Defender. Then try the updating again, as in step
1.
