1.14.1452.3 Update Over and Over agian

Checked MS Update and downloaded and installed Defender Definition
1.14.1452.3. MS Update stated a successful download and installation. Have
checked MS Update 3x since tonight and it says I need to Download and install
1.14.1452.3. I Opened Defender and clicked it to check for updates and it
states it up to date.
Found another person in another forum with the same issue. Their OneCare
icon keeps going yellow each time they reboot because it says it needs
Defender updated and the only update found to be needed is 1.14.1452.3.

Any Ideas

I was just about to chime in with my own "best guess" (that it must be due to
issues with Windows Update). My WD updated just fine, but I have attempted
multiple updates of an Outlook junk mail filter and OneNote patch (are these
REALLY new?) and they always fail.

I guess that I'll have to rely on waiting for another spontaneous fix, as
per my previous experiences with WD.

Failed using Defender About and Check for Updates but updated correctly using
the Resolution method, which I now do in 27 seconds. Hope Microsoft switches
soon the Automatic Updates to Version 1.1.1347.0.

Bill thanks very much for the reply. I tried 918355 & 915105 - neither did
the trick. Uninstalling using Control panel / add & remove programs and
reinstalling didn't do it either.
What did do the trick was...
Uninstalled Defender from Control panel / add & remove programs, then used
Windows Install Cleanup Utility to remove Windows Defender & Windows Defender
Signatures from the installed programs list, then reinstalled Defender. This
was successful and the versions from the reinstall were Windows Defender
Version: 1.1.1347.0, Engine Version: 1.1.1372.0, Definition Version:
1.14.1436.4. Defender then updated itself to Definition Version:
1.14.1452.3 and did a Quick Scan. All went well. Also checked the MS Update
site and found no new updates needed. Looks like this worked.

I've seen repeat offerings of patches from Windows Update before--that is,
patches other than Windows Defender definitions. There's even a KB article
on the issue:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910339/en-us

My usual approach to this issue is to grab the patches directly, via
www.microsoft.com/technet/security (In the end, I think I usually get them
from the download center, searching on the kb #)

When you install individually, you may see more on the screen about what is
happening, and it is easier to remember to check the log associated with the
individual patch. I think my problem with one of the patches last month
involved a file which was "incorrect" in some way for the patch--as I
recall, I just deleted the file, and re-ran the patch which replaced it with
the new version, and all was well in the end.

So--are you still on 1051? I've not been upgrading machines--waiting to
see whether this is offered. So far, no sign..

Thanks--glad that worked in the end. The installer cleanup tool is a last
resort choice. It has some side effects which I don't fully understand the
scope of yet, and I see that Steve Dodson also is avoiding its use, I expect
for the same reason. However, it does do the job.

Hi Bill, A little after the fact note. When I use the Windows installer
cleanup tool to remove the Defender items, it did let me reinstall Defender,
but the Cleanup tool must also affect other things since it also killed my
Office 2003's ability to update. When I tried to update I received the
screen stating that Office update could not complete.................. Went
through all the suggested corrective actions and could not get it resolved
without uninstalling Office, and of course I had to use the cleanup utility
to remove Office items, in order to uninstall Office without getting an error
message. HAd to remove Office registry keys also. I actually did all this
twice over the last (2) nights to be sure this was happening. After I
reinstalled Office everythings works as it should. So when you talked about
avoiding the Cleanup Utility, you were dead on.

Have a nice day

Yes--that's the issue. I'm not completely clear what the required fix for
that issue is--whether it will ever take care of itself, or whether further
user action is always needed to repair office.
