Default order, save dialogue box

D

Dr Teeth

The problem only affects the box that shows all the drives on my PC.
By default, they are sorted by type rather than by name. That gives
the order F:, E:, D:... i.e. the order is Z>A. I want A.Z.

I have deleted the caches that store the folder config info by using:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags].

This hasn't made any difference and I don't know where else to look.
Win XP Pro, SP2 is used and there are no other 'stuck default'
anomalies.

TIA.

Restore Sort order in Open and Save dialogs
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_opensaveorder.htm

Or...

To resolve this behavior, reset the default sort order:
1. Right-click Start, click Explore and then click drive C.
2. On the View menu, click Details.
3. Click the Name column to sort items by name, press and hold down the CTRL
key, and then quit Windows Explorer by clicking Close in the upper-right
corner of the screen.
4. Release the CTRL key.
5. Restart your computer.

NOTE: You must perform these steps exactly as they are listed. For example,
do not quit Windows Explorer by clicking Exit on the File menu.

Hi Wes,

Only the 'My Computer' folder was affected. Your posting pointed me in
the right direction and it is fixed.

Many thanks.

I work on the basis that if it still works, I haven't messed with it
enough ;-)
